I like to think of the nervous system as the alarm system for the body. It keeps us safe from danger. It kept our ancestors safe from predators. But in the modern world, an over-active nervous system can manifest into anxiety, no longer keeping us safe, but keeping us from feeling safe when no harm is no longer there. How do we calm an overactive nervous system? Through our work, we can find ways and tools to calm your nervous system to decrease the negative symptoms that get in the ways of your relationships, your self-esteem, your life.

As you are trying to navigate the challenges of day to day and feeling overwhelmed, over stimulated, and unmotivated, therapy can be a safe place to come unravel with support and guidance and you work to put the pieces of chaos back together.

Who might you be?

When navigating your relationships is like walking on egg shells, anxiety, it can be hard to not be boldly yourself, leading to self doubt and depression. You may even have trauma from different family experiences that cause you to question your every move, even when they are not in the room.

In our work, we will be focusing on approaching these emotions in two ways.

  • First, we will identify these feelings and work on coping skills to help you better manage each day. These coping skills may include shifting your mindset, increasing skills related to your nervous system in a holistic way. This will be a time we work on building our relationship and determining if you are ready for the deep dive it takes to get to the root cause of your emotional distress.

  • Secondly, we will work on getting to the root of what you are experiencing. This will be a deep-dive into the challenges you are facing. This will include exploring the ways your background, including family history and personal history has been impacting you.

  • And finally we will continue to make adjustments in your life that encourage long term joy, happiness and personal growth.

You might be that person who is trying to find balance in the day, trying to get things started, but the energy just doesn’t seem to be showing up. Yet, regardless of the energy showing up, you still have pressures and expectations to show up yourself.

Burnout happens to the best of us. Trying not to be too hard on yourself, it is important to take time to reflect on how you can refill your own needs and prioritize yourself in this process of growth.

You are the people pleaser who meets their needs, but who is meeting your needs? When do you get nurtured the way you need? How do you get to say no and feel confident in it? You may not even know what your needs or desires are. In our work together, we will unravel these dynamics to focus on the nurturing your needs and wellness.

Our work for people pleasing will look slightly different than addressing anxiety. We will also look at family history, but incorporate skills that flex your boundaries. These boundaries will help you incorporate your family and friends into your life in a safe and healthy way for everyone involved. Remember boundaries prevent burnout and resentment. This can be a difficult task to take on, so it will be a gradual process to allow for aclimation.

And when you finally muster the energy to get up, nothing seems to go right. You have applications to fill out, kids to take care of, depression, anxiety or adhd symptoms to ward off. Intrusive thoughts spiral and the doom sets in. Your relationships are feeling messy and you don’t have the energy to even know where to start. You aren’t alone.
